WHO: Registered Whisper runners

WHAT: Intermediate & advanced middle distance and distance running training.

WHEN: Please drop your child off no earlier than 5-minutes before the scheduled start time.

WHERE: We will begin and end at the Hudson’s Bay High School Track. WEATHER & WHAT TO WEAR/BRING: Please be sure your child is dressed for the conditions. Wearing layers that can easily be taken off and wrapped around their waistline is advised. A headlamp will be encouraged once the nights begin to fall a little earlier, which is around mid-October. Other items to consider: a towel to dry off and keep your car from getting messy (sometimes the kids track in dirt from runs), and a waist belt that can carry a phone (if your child has a phone) in case they get lost (while it’s happened only twice in nine years, it does happen - for the record, the kids were fine, and they were back at the start/finish before the end of practice).

Monday Practice - Hudson's Bay, 5:30-6:45pm

WHO: Registered Whisper runners

WHAT: Intermediate & advanced middle distance and distance running training.

WHEN: Please drop your child off no earlier than 5-minutes before the scheduled start time.

WHERE: We will begin and end at the Hudson’s Bay High School Track. Training will take place at the track, on the 1k loop at Clark College, on the dirt track along Mill Plain & Reserve, at Fort Vancouver National Park, or around the downtown area. We will always aim to be back on-time for departure.

USATF Junior Olympic XC Association Meet

This page is under construction and will be updated by October 1.

GENERAL INFORMATION:

The 5k race for the 15-18yo runners is optional at the Association Meet, with automatic advancement into the Regional meet the following weekend. If your child wishes to run in the Regional meet on November 22, please inform Coach Dave of their interest prior to November 7, so he can process registration correctly (there is a process for registering runners and non-runners). The next (their first) JO meet will be on Saturday, November 22, in Monmouth, OR, at Ash Creek Preserve .

TRAVEL: This event is held Magnuson Park in Seattle, WA, which is roughly three hours from Vancouver (on a good travel day).

FRIDAY
COURSE PREVIEW (OPTIONAL):
Coach Dave will be at Magnuson Park at 2pm on Friday for a course preview. This will allow us time to check into our hotel room (see Lodging below) and make it to dinner (see Dinner below) on-time. Plan to depart Magnuson Park by 3pm (depending on weather and the timeliness of everyone showing up) so we can get to the hotel for check-in. The course preview should take 30-60 minutes. For those arriving later, try to arrive before 4pm for an abbreviated version of the course.

LODGING (booking links coming soon):

FRIDAY NIGHT TEAM DINNER: Buca di Beppo Italian Restaurant, 701 Westlake Ave N, Seattle, WA 98109. We will walk from the team hotel to the restaurant and back. Banquet style, menu coming soon. We will begin walking to dinner around 6:00pm. Reservation is 6:30pm.

SATURDAY
BREAKFAST: Hotel has continental hot and cold breakfast.

RUNNERS: The start/finish plus team tent/warm up area will be in the Fields 1, 2, 3, and 4 of Magnuson Park, which is also referred to as The Meadows. Plan to meet at the Whisper canopy in within 90-minutes of the start of your race. Bring a light snack and full water bottle. Also, this is a spike-friendly course. If you have spikes, bring them!

SCHEDULE OF RACES:

No concessions at this meet. There will be some light snacks at the team canopy - plan accordingly.

ADVANCEMENT: Top 35 individuals and top 5 teams qualify for the USATF Region 13 Junior Olympic XC Championship at Chambers Bay on November 23, 2024.

VOLUNTEERS: Each team is required to have 1-2 Course Monitors at some point in each race. More info to come shortly.
