Wednesday Combine Training - click to see location

What better way to work off those holiday bakes than running in one of the most scenic areas in the Pacific Northwest? Forest Park is a runners paradise, with numerous trails and countless miles of exploration! We will meet at Clark College in the Red 1 Parking Lot and depart to Forest Park promptly at 9:05am. The workout will be dependent upon the population of runners, but the idea is to get in a few miles of running, while doing a bit of hill work as well. We will arrive back at Clark between 11:15-11:30am.

Meeting Location: Clark College, Red parking lot (click here for map).

Training Location: Click for directions to Thurman Gate at Forest Park entrance. Written: To reach the main entrance to Leif, head south on I5, W on 405 for ½ mile, veering right towards Hwy 30 but stay on off-ramp and go towards Vaughn St.  Once on Vaughn, go past the first light to avoid traffic, and at the next light, take a left, then a right on Thurman.  Follow Thurman to the gate (about 1.5 miles) and park in a designated spot (it will likely be busy).   Be sure to take shoes you don’t mind getting wet and dirty.

Carpool: Runners can ride with Coach Dave, Pacer Hillary (Ashley’s mom), or Rikki (Kiley’s mom). If any other parent(s) would like to help with carpooling, please let Coach Dave know. Thank you!

Parent-Runner Information Night

LOCATION: Clark College, building O’Connell Sports Cetner 128 (main gymnasium). Click here for the campus map.

PARKING: Park in the Red 1 Parking Lot at Clark College

TIME: 7:70-8:30pm

AGENDA: This will be a night packed full of excitement! We will begin by celebrating those who take part in the USATF Junior Olympic cross-country meets held 11/10, 11/17, and 12/8. Next, Winter Training information will be discussed and the schedule distributed. This will provide a wonderful opportunity to meet the Whisper Coaches, Pacers, and other Whisper runners, as well as a time to ask questions from coaches or parents who have children currently training with Whisper.

We look forward to an amazing night! It is our hope that you can join us for this celebration and information gathering, with cake to follow!

In the meantime, if you would like to reach out and connect with Coach Dave, click here to be connected with the Contact page, where you can fill out information around your child’s current running situation.

Thank you!

Nutrition Seminar - Clark College

Whisper Running welcomes guest speaker Laura Demeri, a colleague and dear friend of Coach Dave’s, to speak to runners and parents of Whisper on the topic of Nutrition and how it relates to running performance and personal health. Parents and runners are encouraged to attend this free event, which is for all runners training with Whisper. Please see Laura’s bio below:

Bio: Laura Demeri received her Masters of Science in Nutrition and Exercise Science from Queens College in New York City.  While in school, she became disenchanted with the information studied under the guise of nutrition and attended the Natural Gourmet Institute  to receive a professional chef’s certificate in health supportive cooking.  It was during this time that she learned how to nourish the body, mind and soul.  Laura moved to the Pacific Northwest in 2005 and taught at Clark College and Portland Community College for over a decade where she honed her skills as an educator.  Her current role as a Health Coach with Kaiser Permanente taught her the skill of motivational interviewing as a new way to connect, engage, empower and inspire those she works with.  Laura is certified by the Health Sciences Institute as a Certified Chronic Care Professional and Registered Health Coach, by the American College of Sports Medicine as a Fitness Instructor, by Power Pilates as an instructor, and is currently pursuing a certification by the American College of Lifestyle Medicine and by the Mindsight Institute in Interpersonal Neurobiology.

To further internalize the content to be addressed, you are encouraged to bring a three-day food log, which includes the foods you’ve consumed during a typical week.

To RSVP, please email, text, or call coach Dave at 360-989-0935.

Thanks!

Race: The USATF Junior Olympic Regional Meet.

Start Times: Same as the Association Meet (once I know, it'll be posted)

Travel: The location of this race is Franklin Park, in the heart of Yakima, WA.

Lodging: Most families are staying at the Comfort Suites, but obviously you may choose elsewhere.

Dinner: We will dine at the fine eatery that is…(drum roll)…Valley Italian Pizza and Pasta at 7pm. For those who will be rolling into town around then, please text or call Coach Dave around 6:30pm to provide an ETA so he knows whether or not to hold a spot at the table for you. Click here for the address. According to the hostess, Cassie, the food is “amazing!” This is a team dinner intended for the runners. We will need help with transporting kids to and from the restaurant. Parents may dine in, or there is also fine dining at the local Carl’s Jr., Miner’s Drive-In, and a nearby Applebee’s Grill.

Whisper Runners: The start times have not been posted yet, but we do plan to meet at the Whisper canopy in Franklin Park within 90-minutes of the start of your race.
