Sports Phyiscals

Sports Physicals are an essential step in approving athletes for the rigors of sport performance, and also serve as a method of screening for potentially undetected abnormalities. With the elimination of sport(s) at the middle school level, sport physicals, or even pediatric check-ups, might go by the wayside.
In an effort to help your child become more aware of their healthy habits, as well as genetic predispositions, all athletes are encouraged to have a sports physical completed by their PCP or pediatrician.
Steps toward bodily readiness:
Schedule your child to meet with their pediatrician, being sure to mention your child’s desire to participate in sport when scheduling the appointment.
You (your physician) may use this form during the physical exam to help determine sport readiness.
If your child’s PCP/pediatrician is not interested in screening iron (Ferritin) levels, schedule an appointment with a specialist, usually a Sports Medicine physician.
See the Resources page which includes two local sports medicine physicians, Erin Wos and Melissa Novak.
