Lake to Bay Volunteer Page

Thank you for volunteering your time for the Lake to Bay event! Volunteers are essential to ensuring a safe and fun event can be had by all! Lake to Bay begins at 5:15am with the first wave of Ultramarathon runners, and participants should be finished around 7pm. Most volunteer positions are in 3-4 hour segments, starting as early as 5:30am, and concluding by 8pm. Volunteers may register for more than one volunteer position, as long as they can make it to their second volunteer spot in time.

Steps to register as a Volunteer

  1. Review the four types of volunteer options (Exchange Monitor, Course Monitor, Bike Monitor, Course Sweeper) below.

  2. Review the positions on the shared Google Sheet. Note the position timeframe and instructions for the positions you are considering.

  3. Complete the Volunteer Form (below).

  4. Exchange monitors should attend packet pick-up on Saturday, June 21, to pick-up their volunteer t-shirt and position supplies.

  5. Tend to your post on race day. Be sure to text volunteers/positions in front and behind your post (ex: if you are at position 7, you’ll want to text the volunteers at positions 6 and 8.

  6. When all runners have passed through your post, you may turn in any supplies to the volunteer at the next exchange, or bring them to Waterfront Park and set them at (preferably beneath) the event trailer parked here (trailer will be parked in a stall nearest Waterfront Park/Trail, to the south of Hotel Indigo).

Volunteer Positions

  • Exchange Monitors: Oversee incoming and outgoing runners, ensuring safety, and signing off teams as they pass through. Supplies provided: Exchange Board, Exchange Monitor team Check-Off document, Course Packet (map included) and First Aid kid.

  • Course Monitors: Ensure runners continue along the course to the next exchange, safely crossing intersections, and abiding by pedestrian traffic laws.

  • Bike Course Monitors: To help oversee the safety of the runners, bicyclists are asked to ride along (behind or in front of) runners when necessary.

  • Course Sweeper: Follow the last place teams, picking up event signage and course markings.

Volunteer Registration

Next, complete the volunteer form. Note: volunteer positions may last up to five hours, but you are welcome to help out longer. If you wish to volunteer but can only be at a post for a short while, please make a note in the comments below (Example, Exchange 1 is 4.75 hours - we can split positions like this in half if necessary).

See the Volunteer Positions Google Sheet before selecting a position.
