Athletic.net Meet Information

As of October 13, the 5k race for the 15-18yo runners is required at the Association Meet in order to advance to Regionals and Nationals. While we are hoping this changes to allow 15-18 yo (HS) runners to participate in NXR or have a rest weekend following a long season, at this time, they must race in Associations if they desire to race at Nationals.

FRIDAY

COURSE PREVIEW (OPTIONAL): Coach Dave will be at Magnuson Park at 3:30pm on Friday for a course preview. This will allow us time to check into our hotel room (see Lodging below) and make it to dinner (see Dinner below) on-time. Plan to depart Magnuson Park by 4pm (depending on weather and the timeliness of everyone showing up) so we can get to the hotel for check-in. The course preview should take 30-60 minutes. Pasta Feed, Foster Teen Gift Drive, White Elephant Gift Exchange, & BYO Gingerbread House

Join us for the Gingerbread House construction/destruction at Clark College in PUB 161 (Fireside Lounge - click here for a campus map.  Bring your unconstructed Gingerbread house to construct, nibble on, and take home!

GIFT DRIVE: The main purpose of this event is to show love toward children in the Foster Care system. We will have a toy and gift drive for Clark County children ages 10-17 who are presently in foster care or state custody. Though gifts for children under 10-years old are appreciated, we are encouraged to bring gifts for children who are in their teens. With several Whisper runners on the team who have been through state custody and/or the adoption process, and my father being adopted at birth, this is something that could really benefit those in physical and/or emotional need.

From Lindsay Griffin, Office Manager at WA St. Department of Children, Youth & Families, “A list of items typically requested from our teens:

  • Wireless earbuds

  • Bluetooth speakers

  • Hoodies Larger sizes (Nike has been requested most of the time)

  • Bath & Body sets/make up sets

  • Electric razor

  • Perfume/Cologne

  • Drones

  • LED lights”

Upon arrival, place your unwrapped gift on the donation table, and then find a place to dine and construct your Gingerbread House.

PASTA DINNER (5:30-6:00pm): Pasta and salad provided..
BYOGBH (6:00-6:45pm)
: Bring your unconstructed Gingerbread House. Costco, Michael’s, Target and Fred Meyer usually have Gingerbread Houses.

CLEAN: 6:45-7:00pm, grab some cleaning supplies and lend a hand!

WHITE ELEPHANT GIFT EXCHANGE (7:00-7:30pm): If your child would like to take part, please bring a wrapped <$5 (gift that costs less than $5) so the kids can play Secret Santa (same as White Elephant Gift Exchange?). I will have a few wrapped gifts in case you do not have time to shop for one. Keep it simple. Thanks!

DINNER: Pending numbers and convenience, we will aim to have a team dinner on Saturday night (if it works out).

WHISPER RUNNERS: Arrive at least 75-minutes prior to the start of your race to get your race bib from Coach Dave, and relax until we begin our warmup, at approximately 50-minutes before the start of the race.

PARKING: Parking lot along SW Fauntleroy Way.

WHISPER RUNNERS: Once at the tent, put on your race bib (on the front of your singlet below the logo) and relax until we begin our warmup, which will begin approximately 45-minutes before the start of the race.

WHAT TO BRING: Water bottle, towel, and an extra change of clothes for after the race if you feel it is necessary.

Restrooms (port-a-potties) will be available at the venue.

DINNER: We have a large group reservation at Grazier Restaurant (Italian) on Saturday at 6pm - arrive no later than 5:45pm. Please RSVP to Joy Jiras’s post on SportsYou if you and/or your family/child can join us.

TIMING CHIPS: Only athletes who are competing can pick up their own timing chip.  No timing chips will be included in team packets.  Timing chips can be picked up next to the registration area near the finish line starting at 8am on race day.  Arrive at least 75-minutes prior to the start of your race to pick up your bib and chip. Upon receiving your bib, and relax until we begin our warmup, at approximately 50-minutes before the start of the race.

COURSE MAP: Click here. Our team canopy will be placed to the left of the finish line.

PARKING (from meet director): Any spectator vehicles that are not carpooling with three or more people will need to park at Curtis High School (8425 40th St. W, University Place WA) and take a 7-minute shuttle bus to the course (running from 7:30am until 5pm).  There will be NO TEAM OR SPECTATOR ACCESS through the Chambers Bay Golf Course entrance.  All team vehicles and carpooling spectator vehicles will park in the gravel lot just north of the start area or in the lot south of the course.  Entrance to this parking area is not through the main entrance to Chambers Bay Golf Course, instead it is via an access road down the hill on Chambers Creek Road near the Chambers Creek Wastewater Plant. The address that directs you to the access road is 10298 Chambers Creek Road West, University Place, WA 98466. Team buses, team vans, and carpooling spectators will all enter on this route.  Team buses will turn right just before entering into the gravel parking lot to park in the large paved area south of the main spectator parking lot.  If/when this lot fills up, other buses will need to do a drop off and pick up. Please share with your bus drivers.  Below is a map of the parking area for your information:  https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ski5c7U9ZpDreMzenXaMXIwNS-xsY4U_/view?usp=sharing

The only vehicles allowed to enter the park through the main public entrance are those dropping off athletes (and not parking) and vehicles with ADA parking permits.  These vehicles should enter Chambers Creek Park via the main entrance by the golf course and ADA vehicles should park in the ADA spots closest to the park.

Please share this with your team families. They will not know this information unless you tell them.  Please also encourage them to arrive early to give themselves enough time to find parking and ride the shuttle. Electronic signage and volunteers at the top and bottom of Chambers Creek Road will communicate the parking expectations, but it is very important that you share this information with your teams and families so we don’t have a lot of people caught by surprise.

Other items to consider: a towel to dry off and keep your car from getting messy (sometimes the kids track in dirt from runs), and a waist belt that can carry a phone (if your child has a phone) in case they get lost (while it’s happened only twice in nine years, it does happen - for the record, the kids were fine, and they were back at the start/finish before the end of practice).
