Parking: Using the PDF map as a guide, please park (drop-off) in/at the parking lot between the Off-Lease Dog Park and Extreme Sports Park (Skate Park).  Coach Dave will meet all runners at the large, covered picnic shelter located near the Community Play area.  Training at this location will include running a variety of intervals on the marked (with orange 12" cones) trail.  The outside loop is approximately 1800m, with 1600m being dirt and compact gravel.

What: Cross-Training is an integral part of training theory within Whisper Running.  Wednesday's we will devote to one hour of water-based exercise, and a second hour will be devoted to functional movement training.  Aqua-jogging belts (or another form of flotation device) will be provided for all runners/swimmers.

When: Please arrive by 8:50am.  Runners will need a modest swimsuit, towel, and a set of warm clothes to put on afterward.  Upon arrival, we will  meet in the gymnasium for a brief team meeting, and then divide into groups.  One group will remain in the gym, while the second group goes into the pool.  At 10am, groups will switch rooms for the remainder of the workout time.

Wednesday - WSBSP

Who: Registered runners preparing for the 2018 Cross-Country season.

What: Cross-Training is an integral part of training theory within Whisper Running.  Wednesday's we will devote to one hour of water-based exercise, and a second hour will be devoted to functional movement training (or vice-versa).  Aqua-jogging belts (or another form of flotation device) will be provided for all runners/swimmers.

When: Please arrive by 8:50am.  Runners will need a modest swimsuit, towel, and a set of dry clothes to put on afterward.  Upon arrival, we will  meet in the gymnasium for a brief team meeting, and then divide into groups.  One group will remain in the gym, while the second group goes into the pool.  At 10am, groups will switch rooms for the remainder of the workout time.

Summer Training Info Night - June 5, 7-8pm at Clark College in OSC 128.

You are invited to come and meet current and future Whisper runners at the 2018 Summer Training Information Night on Tuesday, June 5 from 7-8pm at Clark College in the O'Connell Sports Center!  Representatives from the 2017 USATF Junior Olympic Team will be on hand, along with runners from throughout the Vancouver-Portland area.  Both runners and parents are invited to attend and learn more about the summer running program aimed at getting runners ready for the 2018 cross-country season ahead.  Primary information includes:

  • Highlights of the 2017 XC and 2018 TF seasons.
  • Statistical data supporting the purpose of preseason training benefits.
  • Learn about the 8-9 week 2018 summer training plan.
  • Receive the summer training calendar.

Teach 1 to Lead 1 - Booth Volunteer

Come join the fun at the Race For The Kids event held at Esther Short Park!  You can help out in the Whisper Running booth, participate in the 5k, or both!  Coach Dave will arrive at 6:30am to begin booth set-up.  The 5k start is set for 9:00am and the Kids Dash is set for 10:00am (register here).  Between set-up and racing (7-9am) and post-race (10:30-noon), volunteers will help by distributing flyers and talk with potential runners and their parents about Whisper Running. 

THE RACE: The 5k race is free for the kids (ages 17 and under) and cost $30 for adults (18 and over).  There will be practice at Hudson's Bay from noon-1:30pm, so you'll want to be mindful not to race and attend practice - choose to do one or the other. 

PARENTS: If your child wishes to volunteer, you may drop him/her off with Coach Dave, who will give them tasks throughout the morning in the capacity of volunteering.  In other words, you do not need to remain at the event - drop and go is fine, as long as you (the adult/parent) check-in with Coach Dave at drop-off, and you arrive by 11:30am for pick-up. 

If your child wishes to run, you must preregister and be on-site at the event before, during, and after the race.  You are definitely welcome to help out at the booth, peruse the other booths, or volunteer with the main event in some capacity.

Monday Training - Pacific Park

Practice Location: Pacific Park (1515 N.E. 164th Ave - Vancouver, WA). 

Parking: Using the PDF map as a guide, please park (drop-off) in/at the parking lot between the Off-Lease Dog Park and Extreme Sports Park (Skate Park).  Coach Dave will meet all runners at the large, covered picnic shelter located near the Community Play area.  Training at this location will include running a variety of intervals on the marked (with orange 12" cones) trail.  The outside loop is approximately 1800m, with 1600m being dirt and compact gravel.

Training Emphasis: Middle Distance and Distance training (400m to 3200m), speed-endurance work.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Breakfast at Coach Caldwell's after training.  Pancakes, waffles, sausage, eggs, fruit, and more.  All Whisper runners are invited to attend practice and stay for breakfast from 10:30-noon.
