Monday Training - Pacific Park

Practice Location: Pacific Park (1515 N.E. 164th Ave - Vancouver, WA). 

Parking: Using the PDF map as a guide, please park (drop-off) in/at the parking lot between the Off-Lease Dog Park and Extreme Sports Park (Skate Park).  Coach Dave will meet all runners at the large, covered picnic shelter located near the Community Play area.  Training at this location will include running a variety of intervals on the marked (with orange 12" cones) trail.  The outside loop is approximately 1800m, with 1600m being dirt and compact gravel.

Training Emphasis: Middle Distance and Distance training (400m to 3200m), speed-endurance work.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Breakfast at Coach Caldwell's after training.  Pancakes, waffles, sausage, eggs, fruit, and more.  All Whisper runners are invited to attend practice and stay for breakfast from 10:30-noon.

Tuesday Training - Washington State School for the Blind

Who: Registered runners preparing for the 2018 Track season.

What: One of the best forms of cross-training can be water-based exercise.  In our case, we will perform aqua-jogging.  Aqua-jogging belts (or another form of flotation device) will be provided. 

When: Please arrive by 6:50pm so your child can prepare to enter the pool.  Runners will need a modest swimsuit, towel, and a set of warm clothes to put on afterward.  Upon arrival at 6:50pm, they will head down the hall to rinse off prior to entering the pool.  We can only be on the pool deck or in the pool between 7:00-8:00pm.

Please note: SW Medical Center/Peace Health is teaming up with the Quinn Driscoll Foundation to screen young athletes for cardiovascular arrhythmia's.  If you would like to have your child screened, you may do so at anytime on this day, but practice will be held 9-11am.  Be sure to provide a post-workout snack for your child, prior to the screening.  Screening is from 8am-4pm.

Heart Screening

My wife being a Cardiac Ultrasound Technician, and I being a teacher of Health and Fitness, it only makes sense to encourage all of the Whisper Runners to undergo cardiac screening, if for nothing else, to learn a little bit more about yourself. 

Online registration begins January 9th.  We will have practice from 9-11am, so if you would like have your child take part in the heart screening, try to do so after practice, being sure they have had a small bite to eat after practice as well.
