It seems just yesterday, we were flying home from Shelbyville, Indiana, site of the 2025 USATF Junior Olympics Cross-Country National Championship meet, aiming to get back in a timely manner for the foster teen gift drive. Insert practice with S’mores at Lewisville, Christmas light runs, and a few weeks into Winter Training, and the 2026 Track & Field season is at our doorstep! The spring club track schedule is taking shape, with a new meet added to the schedule Tuesday morning - the Wildwood Miles for Girls & Women meet at Lincoln High School in Portland on Saturday, February 28. Excitingly, this is an evening meet, presumably under the lights, which always makes the vibe feel extra unique! All of our girl runners are encouraged to participate, and the boys are encouraged to cheer them on, to help make the experience unforgettable! The Whisper season schedule is loaded this winter, with three indoor meets, and two outdoor, all before spring break! For new families to the team, seeing these meets pass by your eyes might feel overwhelming, like you’ve missed an email. Worry not, as meets are always optional (yet encouraged), and registration remains open through spring. Joining the team is simple, with participation only taking a few steps: See the team schedule, which will continue growing as meets will be added as they are published (on athletic.net). Register for the season ($99) Coach Dave will send weekly emails to the team soliciting interest into meets 1-3 weeks ahead, and you/parent replies indicating yes or no. Coach will talk with child about events most appropriate for optional growth, development, and experience, then register your child. Parent pays the meet fee on athletic.net ($25, but NON is $60/event). See our Join the Team page for more information on this step (athlet.net, claiming your child, paying meet fees, etc.).
Once families are involved, the season is not overly complex. Rather, it’s quite fun, and the kids learn a ton about themselves through the events they explore. All of our sprinters will race in the 100m, 200m, and 400m, and if they become curious, the 800m. Meanwhile, all distance runners will participate in the 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, and if they are mature enough, the 3k. Runners will not be pigeon holed into one or two events, rather, they will explore 2-4 events each meet for experience, growth, and conditioning.
